WONDERFUL NEWS!

We're pregnant! I have been wanting to tell everyone so bad, but I had to wait till we were past the "danger zone". We couldn't be happier! We are almost 14 weeks along and due June 23rd. In less than 1 month (January 20) we will find out what we are having. If we get another girl, we will save a ton of money on clothes; if it's a boy, there will be no pressure in the future. Makayla and our baby will be 2 years and 4 months apart. I haven't been too sick, just the usual queasiness and such. We're really just so excited and happy!

Thanksgiving 2008

Well, it sure was nice to get out of town. We went down south to Scott's parents house for Thanksgiving. We ate plenty, played lots of games, and most of all enjoyed each other's company. Some of the highlights of the weekend were:

Making gingerbread houses. All of the couples got to decorate their own gingerbread house. We had a little contest. All of the grandkids seemed to like ours the best. Ours is the one with the licorice fence.




We also had a pool table tournament. For once we actually took the cover off of the table, and played several games. We had a winner's bracket and a loser's bracket. I was right in the middle. Scott had much more skill than I did.



Black Friday shopping was awesome! Well, it was better than could be expected for a podunk town. We actually were able to hit Walmart, Home Depot, Walgreens, Radio Shack, and Staples. Best of all, Makayla got to sleep in because Grandpa Marv didn't want to get up, so it really worked out for us crazies that were out the door at 4:15 a.m.

It was a great weekend! Best of all, we came home to an unrobbed, untouched house. (4 years ago we were robbed over Thanksgiving, plus they came back the same night, plus it took us 8 hours to get home because of a blizzard, instead of the usual 4 hours.)

Still Missing!

Rocky's still missing! He's been gone for 4 days now. Today, I made posters of him and Makayla and I went door to door asking the block if they'd seen him, plus we hung several on telephone poles. There were 2 houses that said they saw him Thursday night, but nobody has seen him since then.

Scott and I also visited 2 animal shelters looking for him today. We went to the SLC Animal Services and the Humane Society. No such luck. There are several cute kitties, but not our Rocky Docky.

We actually have another cat named Sparkles and an aquarium full of fish, but still... part of our family is missing. I pray that Rocky can come home soon, or that if he is suffering, he can be at peace. It would tear me up to think he's being abused. Please Rocky, come home soon!

Rocky's Missing!

Our beloved Rocky cat is missing! He hasn't come home for over 1.5 days! He is a 5 year old long haired tuxedo cat. I'm worried something has happened to him because he always sticks around the yard when he is outside. We drove around the neighborhood and didn't see any roadkill. I really hope he turns up alive and well. Makayla needs her friend back!










On a brighter note, Scott and I went on a real date tonight! The date was unique and fun. Our old friends from our Sugarhouse ward invited us to go to dinner at the Lion House and listen to Elder Quentin L. Cook, an apostle, speak. He mostly commented on how the church has grown rapidly in the Phillipines, Australia, and the Tongan Islands. Then he took questions, most of which were about the Proposition 8 and the Church's stance on that, plus the economy, and the election. He said that the church never takes sides with political parties, but that they definitely take a stand on moral issues like Proposition 8.

His cute wife told us about the Primary theme for next year "Building Eternal Families". She sang a sweet song about building eternal families that the primary kids will learn next year. All in all, it was an enjoyable evening. Best of all, we got to meet Elder Cook and shake his hand!

A Spicy Girl

West Lake Junior High School (where I work), had a faculty talent show today for the students. I was part of the Spice Girls act, Baby Spice. We lip synced and danced to "Wannabe". It was incredibly awesome watching 1,100 kids go berserk as we made fools of ourselves. The energy filled the auditorium as we pranced around. I would do it again for sure!

Halloween 2008

Now that Halloween has been over for officially a week, I thought I'd better hurry and get some photos on of what we did. Makayla was an adorable unicorn.



Well 1st we went around to a few of the older folk's houses in our ward. Scott and I threw on some random wigs and scrubs we had in our Halloween box. Makayla actually got quite the stash for us only taking her to 10 houses.





Then Wendy & Dan invited us to a Halloween party, so we went over to the house and had a soup festival, played games, and watched scary movies. Ava is so adorable! It was an enjoyable evening.

Pumpkin Personalities

We had a good time last night. We went and picked out our pumpkins and then came home and went to work. Scott decided to make his pumpkin an evil one and I made mine a happy one.

Can you tell who's whose?

If you haven't carved your pumpkin yet, you ought to save your seeds and make this yummy recipe with them:

2 c. unwashed pumpkin seeds
1 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire Sauce
1 1/2 tbsp. melted butter
1 1/4 tsp. seasoning salt

Clean seeds off fairly well, but don't wash. Combine ingredients in bowl until seeds are coated. Spread on a cookie sheet. Bake at 250 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. Stir at least once during cook time until seeds are crisp, dry, and golden brown. Tip: for easy clean up, line cookie sheet with tinfoil, works great! Store seeds in a ziploc bag or tupperware. Enjoy!

What a Deal!

I love Rodizio Grill! Aside from the fact that the each dinner costs $25 and lunch costs $17, it's a wonderful place. We usually only go there when it is a special occasion, like a celebration, etc. Well anyway, we had a gift certificate for $25, and since it's UEA and I was off school for a moment, we decided to splurge and have a great meal. We strategically went for lunch on Friday so that it would be less, only $17 each. All the workers dress Brazilian, which look like 'pirates' to me. They come around and just keep giving you meat until you turn your block of wood to red, which signals stop. Plus they have a killer salad bar. We were enjoying ourselves and Makayla was behaving very well also, when a nice young couple came up to us and gave us a $20 gift card to Rodizio that they would not be able to use because they live far away and it expired soon. So we didn't know if Rodizio would take both because usually it's only 1 certificate per ticket, but to our excitement, they DID!!! It was so awesome! A whole delicious meal for free! All we had to pay was the tip. Eating at this gourmet restaurant was less than McDonalds. Hooray for tithing blessings!

Little Boo!

Oooooh! Scary! Lately Makayla has been entertaining us by being a ghost. She will take any blanket, preferably the one shown in the picture and walk around the house with it on her head. It is the cutest thing ever! Scott and I just laugh when she does it, which is everyday. What a creative little girl Makayla is!

Cedar City

We finally got out of town this last weekend. It was pretty neat to get a break from Parent Teacher Conferences & school and go down to Cedar City and have a pretty good time. We hadn't been there since April, so our trip was way past due to see the in-laws. We hung out with everyone Bryan & Candi, Scott (Perkies) & Christie, and Mom & Dad Paxton + the kids. On Saturday Scott and Dad changed the brakes on my car, then everyone went on a 3 mile hike up the canyon and played at the park, then the ladies went to the Women's Conference. Of course there were a few games and a nice BBQ mixed in with the weekend. Scott would ideally like to move back to Cedar City. You can't blame him, it really is beautiful.

3. Who said, "I love you" first? Scott did after a few months of dating... It was in the winter after an Angela Lansbury concert. Then I said it back.

7. Who does the laundry? Mostly Kristin because when Scott does it, things change color and shrink. But he does a great job on his own things when he wants.

18. How did you meet? In a wonderful singles ward in Cedar City, Utah. Scott set me up on a blind date for SUU's Homecoming, and even though I was on a date with his friend, Scott and I just "clicked".
19. Who asked whom out first? Scott asked me out the day after Homecoming (see above).
20. Who kissed who first? Scott went in for the kill after a few dates.
21. Who proposed? Scott proposed on March 15, 2002. He actually took me to St. George to go ring shopping, and on the way, we stopped to walk around the St. George Temple. He asked me to dance right in front of the double doors. As we danced to the "Hero" song, Scott pulled out a dozen roses from the bushes and got on his knees and proposed... He already had the ring! Supposedly it took me 13 seconds to answer yes to him. (It was recorded on camera from across the lawn)
22. His best features and qualities? He is a goofball. He's always full of entertainment. There's never a dull moment when he's around. He's quick witted. He's great with kids, especially Makayla. He's an entrapanuer, always coming up with new business ideas; very creative I might add. He is a great handyman, fixing things and remodeling places. He's a hard worker. He has beautiful sky blue eyes. He's Scott, and I love him.

Makayla is always showing us new things she can do and say. The latest is saying "one" and sticking a finger in the air when we ask her age.

Final Summer Hurrah

Well, we had one final hurrah to summer by camping up American Fork Canyon for 4 days in the middle of August. Day 1 our poor jeep overheated 3 times going up the canyon. The 6 cylinder car is just not tough enough to pull our trailer up the incline of the mountain. So it was quite embarrassing blocking the road of the canyon about 1 mile before the Mount Timpanogas Visitor's Center. We had to direct traffic both directions around our jeep, and there was a very sharp curve in the road, all the while Makayla is running amuck and refusing to stay out of danger. Very Humiliating!! I can empathize with people who's cars break down during traveling.

Once we got there (finally) we set up camp and had a blast. We also explored where the 12 yr old boy got mauled by a bear last year and did some 4 wheeling. Day 2 we toured the Mt. Timpanogas Visitor's Center and went fishing at Lake Timpooneeke. Day 3 we drove down the other side of the canyon to Cascade Springs, and visited the Heber Creeper Train Station, and ate lunch at Pizza Hut. We took a scenic drive past Deer Creek and up the canyon. Day 4 we came home, stopping at Cabela's along the way home. Being in nature was a wonderful opportunity.

Yuba Lake Trip

Well, it's already been another month. Summer is just a flying by. We've been having a good time. Our little family enjoyed a trip to Yuba Lake and Fish Lake for 8 days in July. Scott caught about 30 perch fish and Makayla and Mom just played in the water. Makayla loved swimming and boating. She was very upset anytime that we left the beach unless it was by watercraft. Her favorite word on this trip was "boat!" We went with Scott's parents and siblings: all together there were 15 people. We enjoyed fun activities such as kite flying, bike riding, a waterfight, a carnival, a treasure hunt, a Christmas in July gift party, duct tape bag making, not to mention great food and company. It was neat to get out and relax in nature.

It's about time I put some pictures on our blog. Here is sweet little Makayla who came to us:

She sure is a joy to have in our lives. Every day she picks up new things. She is a very bright little girl.
Now she's 16 months old. From helping unload the dishwasher, to sorting laundry, to throwing away things, she is always amazing us. She also picks up on new words daily. This week she said 'cheese' when she wanted more. It was really cute, coming out "gheez" "gheez" in a low raspy voice that she repeated until her request was met. Last night as we were swimming, she really wanted the purple ball. I said "You want the purple ball?" She replied with "popol" and repeated it again with her finger pointed to it. What a smart girl!

Finally

After what seems like forever, I was able to recover my password to get into Blogger.
No joke, it took me over 30 minutes to get in. Scott had to change some settings on our computer because it has too high of a firewall. Hopefully I can learn some tricks of posting pictures and whatnot soon, at least before summer is already over, and I am off to work at West Lake Junior High.

Blogging is New

I've never even been interested in Blogs until the past few weeks. My sister and a friend have shown me their blogs which are really cool and have neat photos. My goal is to learn how to upload photos by the end of April 2008.
