May 2014

Can you say wind damage? We came home from a movie to discover that the wind took a toll on our roof. We have been dealing with the insurance on this one.  The wind also shredded our trampoline cover and threw it 30 feet, but it was salvaged.

We sold our rental property on May 15th. Scott was so excited that he bought us "Happy I'm Not A Landlord Anymore Donuts" the next morning.

Cute Sterling graduated from Bengal Paw Preschool.  The black & white photo is his class.

The program was short and sweet. Sterling said that his favorite thing about the preschool was making pictures.  He is so excited to go to kindergarten in the fall at Makayla's big school! He has been working hard on his letters, numbers, and writing.

We had an end of year celebration at our house for the neighborhood preschool. It went very well.

Makayla had an egg drop event at her school. She chose to pad her egg with socks, plastic bags, and crumpled newspapers. Her egg survived falling off the school roof!

Enjoyed our stop to the arcade.

And Clark Planetarium.

We tried a new restaurant created by the owners of Cafe Rio called Pie Five. It was decent enough, but Lincoln was wiped out and slept.

And Grandma Paxton turned 91! We had a party for her at the care center where she now lives. Around 40 family and friends came and supported her.

Aunt Lisa is the very talented artist who sketched the pretty picture of Grandma.

My kids favorite part of the party? The sandbox of course.

Goodbye Rental

We are officially not landlords anymore as of May 15, 2014.  This is actually a huge relief as we don't have to fix things anymore or deal with crazy tenants.  After a roller coaster 10 year stint of being landlords, we decided that it doesn't make sense to deal with all of the drama of landlording, so we sold our property at 1075 South Jeremy Street.  I will admit though, at the time that we lived there  (2.5 years), it did make sense, and we learned a lot.  Scott is a pro a fixing things now.  Some skills he learned along the way are painting, mudding, tiling, plumbing, installing light fixtures, swamp coolers, refinishing wood floors, and I'm sure a few more.  So without further adieu:

Goodbye bathroom where we gave Makayla her first bath.

Goodbye bedroom where Scott and I had many movie dates by using the projector and flashing it on our wall.  Also goodbye to Scott's office that shared half our our room for the last year.

Goodbye kitchen.  You were good to us and we appreciated you.

Goodbye front room where we mostly hung out.  Some favorite things in here were playing Guitar Hero and watching the series "24".  I also remember many late night baby feedings in here.  You provided room for Scott's parents to put an air mattress when they came up to visit. Also many school papers were corrected on the couch.  We played laptop games while relaxing in the evenings too in here. So thanks for providing us space to be.

Goodbye basement where we stored lots of things and boxes.

Goodbye laundry room where we stored even more stuff.  And wooden vent area, we were so excited to find an old chest from Europe hiding in your crawlspace.  Even if it was full of Christmas ornaments from the seventies and not treasure like we were hoping for.

And spare toilet in the laundry room, it sure was nice to have you around.

Goodbye Makayla's bedroom downstairs that used to have princess wallpaper around it.  We remember sleeping on an air mattress in here the first night Makayla was put in her crib away from our bedroom.

Goodbye back rental house that made a lot of sense to rent out.  We were especially happy when the city approved you and recognized you as a legalized rental, not just a mother-in-law one.

Goodbye huge backyard. We sure had fun playing around here with you.

One of our favorite memories in your yard was tossing horse-shoes.  Another favorite memory was putting up a huge above ground pool.  Too bad our cat Rocky decided to jump in it and drowned.  I went around to all the neighbors showing pictures of you Rocky and even stapled up fliers on poles, for you to be discovered 4 months later when the ice thawed in the pool.  May you rest in peace under the big bush.

Goodbye bikes that I chained to the fence and forgot about.  You gave us many good rides.  One of my favorite ones was to South Temple and back at night. Fun date!

Goodbye fruit trees including apple, peach, plum, and two cherry trees.  Thanks for the fruit!  And tree with the cool branch by the ladder, thanks for giving us countless hours of fun pushing Makayla in her swing.

Goodbye 1075 South Jeremy Street. We truly can say that we love you.  Thank you for allowing a peaceful spirit in your home. And thanks for the fond memories!
