Makayla's 7th Birthday

Makayla was the Primary Spotlight this week. How convenient for her birthday post!

You are a sweetheart Makayla!

Makayla had early out day on her birthday. She brought fudge striped cookie bags and Capri Suns to share with her class. 

After school she went to her kids club hour at the library.  She was pretty excited that they sang to her and she got to make a puppet.

Makayla was adamant about having a friends party, so I agreed and let her invite some friends over. It ended up being 3 girls and 3 boys, although one boy stayed home sick.  The kids arrived at 6pm on her birthday evening and the menu Makayla picked was chicken nuggets, tater tots, apple slices, veggies & dip, plus cream soda and rootbeer.  The kids ate dinner, then we played a few games.  The first game was musical chairs and the winners (everyone eventually) got to pick an m&m's package for their prize.  Then we had a treasure hunt for the goodie bags.  I originally was going to have the kids go around the yard too, but it was raining very hard, so I adjusted it to 10 clues inside and purposely had the kids running up and down the stairs for their clues to make it fun. They found clues under Makayla's pillow, the kitchen table, the toybox, dryer, kitchen garbage can, bathtub, the office desk, pinball machine, aquarium, and ended up finding their prizes inside the oven. I forgot to snap a photo, but they loved the games.

Then we opened presents and had cake and ice cream.  Makayla is really in to art right now, so we made sure to get her some art supplies. We also gave her horse things, books, lotions, fingernail polish, perfumes, and earrings.

Makayla for sure wanted a sleepover with 2 of her friends, so we compromised with the parents and had a late-over. The party ended at 7:30, but two girls got to stay until 9pm.  Iris, Laila, and Makayla had such a good time! They decorated crowns, painted fingernails, and got dressed up and danced to music. They were so fun to watch!  I thought it was darling that one girl brought everything as if she was really staying the night. She even got in her jammies and had her stuffed animals. So fun!

Makayla has been asking since one year ago when she can get her ears pierced. She would bring it up monthly at least. So we agreed to let her really get it done the evening before her birthday.  We went over to Claire's and she picked out her favorite color of studs, light blue.  She was so brave and looks pretty cute!

Makayla and Sterling ended up having a sleepover on the bean bag where they watched "Wreck it Ralph" on the big screen. I loved how their arms were touching. One day I might have to remind them that they are good friends with this photo!

We sure love our Makayla! We couldn't ask for a better daughter!

February 2014

I was shocked when I arrived to pick Makayla up after school to see her walking into the building. I quickly parked and trotted in to see what was going on. The neighbor boy that we carpool with had been horsing around and bonked his head into my daughter's mouth and one front tooth had fallen out. Thankfully, one had been loose, though, so I comforted her and took her home. About 2 hours later we were eating dinner at a pizza place and her other front tooth came out with a bite of her pizza. Holy cow, I have never heard of losing both front teeth in the same day!! So thanks to Ande (the boy) this happened. At least they were baby teeth. To make it even crazier, she lost a third tooth in the top middle about a week later.

Makayla is so cute, she made the tooth fairy a sweet card to go with her teeth in the baggie and slipped it under her pillow.

Sterling got to go with his preschool class to Clark Planetarium. His special leader was Megan this time. Lincoln and I tagged along too.

The neighborhood preschool is still going well. I taught the letter V and #20 this month. We painted with vegetables, made a vase with flowers, and played with a violin.

Scott's birthday was February 12th. My parents took us to dinner at La Cocina (Scott's favorite Mexican restaurant) and that was nice of them.

On Scott's real birthday he chose to go to Famous Dave's, his favorite overall place to eat. We then finished celebrating at Nickelmania. We definately love arcades!

Scott was excited to get this green fog machine for his main gift. It creates fog using baby oil.

Lincoln has started potty training, well when I say that, I mean barely. I wish he would use the toilet regularly, but he will only willingly go in the morning and night. I would love to be done with diapers right now, but he is not on the same page as my wishes.

For Valentine's Day we gave the kids a glow-in-the-dark book and a box of chocolates. Scott and I gave each other chocolates, gummies, cards, and Kisstixx. Those are chapsticks that have fun flavors, two to a package, like fire & ice and strawberry & chocolate. We also watched "You've Got Mail."

We made fondue for Valentine's dinner. We made a cheddar cheese one, a swiss cheese one, and a chocolate one. And we had everything you could think of to dip in it. I loved how it turned out and I want to make it a yearly tradition!

I took the kids swimming a few times.

We started a new allowance program for our kids. They can earn $2.00 a week by keeping their goals. When they fall short, they cross out a nickel. I pay them on Saturdays. Then we erase the chart and start over. They can buy things at the store with money they have earned. It seems to be working so far.

The kids saved their money and bought these scooters! They were on clearance at WalMart, so that was cool that they could buy something with their own money.

Sterling thinks he needs a new car every time we go to the store. I think not! But now he has his own money to buy one if he chooses.

We visited Grandma Diane and she helped the kids make a craft.

We had to to go Clark one more time and catch the new moon movie before our passes expired.

The Safe Kids Fair was pretty cool! I would recommend going, it's a free event.

Look at the size of these tumbleweeds that keep blowing into our yard from the high school!
