Spring Break 2019- Old Nevada Towns

We had the best Spring Break this year and decided to spend it in small towns - doing rock hounding, cave and mine exploring, and ghost town hunting.  This was all new to us which made it all the better!

Day 1 Delta, UT
We headed to Delta, Utah and went hunting for topaz.

Day 2  Delta, UT & Baker, NV
We explored the Topaz Museum and a history museum.

Then we headed to U-Dig Fossils and were able to find several trilobites!

We stayed at the Borderline Inn, right on the boundary of Utah and Nevada.

Day 3 Baker, NV & Great Basin National Park
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the Lehman Caves.

Then we explored all the day long several ghost towns and mines.

We ended the day staying in Pioche, Nevada at the Overland Hotel.  This place has been on Ghost Hunters show.  We believe it is haunted too!  Scott and I were woken up at 4:30am to luggage clanking along the hallway outside our door.  There was a creaky staircase next to our upstairs room and the luggage or person never went downstairs to exit, just walked up and down the hallway.  Then at 5am I heard a loud bang of luggage slamming which woke me up again!  Creepy but interesting too!

Day 4 Pioche, NV
We explored more ghost towns and mines.

Had a great time. Some highlights were the PanAmerican and the Comet Mine ghost towns.

More adventures. We saw some bats in a cave. One cool thing was this rugged getaway shack.

Ended the night soaking in Caliente Hot Springs.

Day 5 Caliente, Delamar, & Rachel, NV
Checked out Caliente and met a new friend named Susan.  She gave us some vintage movie tickets of the theater that was open long ago.

Loved the Delamar Mine. Probably the highlight of our trip!

Then it was time for Rachel, Nevada and the Extra Terrestrial Highway!

We found another mine to explore.

And some abandoned buildings.

Had burgers for dinner and stayed in a beat up 70s trailer.

Day 6 Rachel &Goldfield, NV
Hello Area 51!  You were not allowed to go any closer. They have armed guards ready to pounce on trespassers.  We saw a jeep full of camo dudes drive in and they had to all get out and get patted down while their car was examined too.

More ghost town adventures including an abandoned hangar.

The Tonopah Mining Museum tour in a UTV was cool.

Then it was time for the exotic car graveyard!

Day 7  Tonopah & Ely Nevada
Stayed in Goldfield, Nevada and checked out the haunted Clown Motel.

Ate lunch at the Lunar Crater.

More ghost town visiting.

Then we swam and ate a yummy Mexican dinner and fried ice cream in Ely, Nevada.

Stopped at a Wendover park on the way home. We loved this unique exploration getaway!
