Coalville Getaway

We were happy to escape the valley for a few days and go camping the first part of October.  After school on October 1st we drove up to one of our favorite places to camp: Coalville.  We were glad to be back after a few years.  We picked a spot right next to a river and set up camp.

The next day we ventured an hour east and ended up in Wyoming at a really neat place called Fort Bridger.  We surely lucked out because the museum was supposed to be closed, but they kept it open on a last minute whim.

Fort Bridger was a military fur trading post on the Green River banks.  The Pony Express also stopped there and it was a resupply point on the Mormon pioneer trail too.  So much history lays there including old homes, buildings, and a cemetery.  This was the highlight of our camping trip!

We took 10 more minutes and drove to Lyman where Grandma and Grandpa Bradshaw met and dated.  I do recall a story of how Grandma's home caught fire one winter night and the fire department couldn't put it out because the water supply was frozen.  So the house burned to the ground.  Grandpa took care of Grandma and made sure she had a place to stay while everything got settled.  This was during their courtship.   Too bad I didn't have any addresses to see exactly where each lived.  I would have loved to see where this unfolded.

We stopped at Don Pedros in Evanston and ate dinner. This savory seafood soup is my new favorite food from Wyoming.  Yum!

Then we visited the old railyard on our way out of town.

On Saturday we watched conference and then ventured out into downtown Coalville.  We found a cave and climbed through that.

We took some photos then went to some little shops.

Sunday we listened to conference then walked around and explored Highway 6.

We decided to take Monday off school to enjoy our little trip more.  We stopped by a park and played.

We were mesmerized by a helicopter dutifully stringing wire along several new power poles.  His talent of not crashing amazed us.

We explored a pretty neat little museum in downtown Coalville.

Then we winterized the trailer, packed up, and drove home.

A great little getaway was just what we needed!

P.S.  We also let 4 of the salamanders go in a quiet bend in the river.  The two largest ones, Tripod and Sir Newton, remain as our pets.
