We went on a camping trip with my family for a week in July. Scott and I are part of Camperworld, which is a membership to certain campgrounds in Utah. So we decided it was time to check out the Hot Springs Resort in a town called Garland in northern Utah.
My parents rented a trailer and came with us. We left on a Wednesday and then came home on a Tuesday. The first day there, we mostly set up camp and went four wheeling a little. They didn't have any mountains close enough to four wheel at, but they did have some hills included in the campground.
The next day, Wendy's family joined us. So that was cool our kids had some cousins to play with.
Danny and Dixie plus Maria's family joined us on Friday through Sunday. Then Monday, it was my parents and us, and we checked out on Tuesday.
The campground is called Hot Springs because it sits on some. The swimming pool is filled up with the hot springs water, plus there is a pond filled up with it also. They drain it and spray wash it twice a week.
Some things we were able to do up there were go to Wagonland, a carriage and wagon museum in Tremonton. This guy bids on antique wagons at auctions and then restores them at his place. He offers tours only by appointment. I think my kids were more entertained by the kittens, than by the actual wagons.
We also stopped by an iron works park in Tremonton. It is in the middle of nowhere, and we wouldn't have known about it if my mom hadn't researched the area with library books.
My parents treated us to lunch at a yummy pizza place / arcade on the way back called Pizza Plus. They had the best breadsticks!
One of my favorite places we visited was the Golden Spike Museum. That was pretty cool to see where the transcontinental railroads finally met up. We were there just in time to see the engines move and shoot off steam.
Oh, and we found a random waterfall on the way back to camp from the train museum.
My mom let Makayla use a sharp knife to cut up some squash and it completely freaked me out! I had only let her use butter knives up to this point.
Another day we hung out in Brigham City and found the largest migratory bird refuge in Utah. It was pretty cool learning about birds and checking them out in nature. The best part was driving through the refuge trail. There were pelicans, which are some of my favorites!
We ate a yummy lunch at the Island Isle restaurant, (which is haunted by an Indian), and then bought some chocolates at the Island Isle Candy Shop.
One evening Scott and I took a scenic drive to Clarkston and found a hidden lake. I found this hilarious poster there of a guy looking for a soul-mate wife. It cracked me up a lot!
A cat that we nicknamed 'Stubbs' because of the lack of his tail, hung out with us at camp. It loved getting attention from us and we were pretty sure it was homeless.
Mostly, we played lots of games and had fun chatting by the fire at night. This is only the 4th trip my family has done since we've been married. We have done a cruise, Yellowstone, and a stay in a condo up in Ogden Canyon. So it was good to spend some time with my side of the family.
